I'm 25 years old, and I've been producing for
quite a while. Recently, I've felt the urge to get serious about it.
I started making music at the age of 14, using programs such as impulse tracker and fast tracker, which were free DOS based music creation programs. Knowing nothing about music theory, I started out with electronic tunes, emulating a variety of my favorite bands. Many of these failed, although a few of them sounded fairly good, especially for someone that didn't know what they were doing. After a few years of trial and error, my tracks started to take shape, and I began to branch out into other genres. Hip hop was only a natural progression, considering that I was really into three musical styles at the time, and I'd been making music in two of them.
I started getting interested in rapping myself, and I dreamt of making a complete Do-It-Yourself album, as well as becoming a multi-genre music producer. I went to The International Academy of Design and Technology for Recording Arts, and learned how to work in a studio. I learned how to use advanced software, such as Pro Tools, Logic, and Cubase. I studied music theory and began to apply it to my school projects. The before and after difference was quite apparent. My old tracks always lacked something to bring them together into a entirely cohesive piece, and armed with my newly gained knowledge, I've started making real music.
Most of my influences come from other genres of music, my biggest inspirations being Nine Inch Nails, Aphex Twin, and Portishead. I believe this is what makes my music special, the fact that I'm not trying to become the next Dr Dre or Timbaland. I'm trying to put my unique stamp on the very edges of the envelope.
