So, out of the 5 days I've had off, I've devoted 2 or them to music. I must say I'm pleased with the results. If I keep on track (which I won't, as the next three of my days are devoted to Halloween parties and watching Saw 3) then I expect that I'll actually begin singing on a track in about a week's time.
This weekend however, is scheduled for fun and fun only. Not that making music isn't fun, I love composing and creating synth patches. I just haven't gotten mashed in a while, and I intend on doing so this weekend. Who knows, maybe I'll have some memorable experiences, which means that I'll have more material, which in turn means that I'll have more to draw from when I write some songs. It's all for the music.
So I had a kick assed weekend, hoorah! So what's happened, in regards to music, since the entry posted over a week ago? Well, Shane and I had another rhyme session, and it went pretty well, I nailed how I want the flow in a few songs to go.
I also, on the subway, yet again, have written another song, in about the same amount of time it'd taken me to write the last one. I also think it's even better than the best song I've ever written. So, I suppose, it's my new best song.
I do find myself in a small dilemma in my creative process. When I write a new song, I feel compelled to drop what I've done with everything else, and start working on that new track. I'm constantly in a cycle, leaving no track to ever get finished. And on the odd chance I do go back to a track to do some work on it, I find myself contempt to leave said track in a "good enough" state, a state that I know what the final product will sound like, but it's not enough to release to anyone.
I think my solution from now on will be to schedule time, literally in a day planner, to work on each track. I have lots of spare time at the moment, and I think forcing myself to work on something, even when I feel like working on something else, will be at the very least, a good experiment.
So it's Friday the 13th and I'm not scared like most people are.
I've done a few things this past week, I had Shane over for the semi-weekly rhyme session, which was fun as usual. We penned almost a whole song, it just needs a few finishing touches. We hope that the next time he heads over, we'll record it. I've got a beat halfway completed for it, and it as well needs just a few touchups. It's quite a non-traditional beat, as most of my hip hop stuff tends to be, but it's got a really good groove to it. Pff, I'd dance to it, or at least attempt something that closely resembles dancing to the untrained eye.
I've also written what I consider to be the best song I've ever written. It took me 15 minutes to do on the subway. A fairly straightforward song, I probably won't end up complicating it with numerous amounts of beats and textured synths. So far, all I have in my head is piano chords and melodies that I know not how to play. I'd use a section of strings as well, but sampled strings rarely come off properly, so I'll stick with some sort of pad.
Anyways, that be my update, yo.
It's been a while, and a few things have happened since the last update. I've finally been inked, I got it done just over a week ago. It looks quite nice, I'll take a new picture of it when it stops peeling. For anyone wondering about getting a tattoo -- it doesn't hurt that much, it's more annoying than anything. I'd say the itching between days 6-8 is much worse than the actual needle penetrating your skin, over and over.
I'm writing some more rhymes with Shane, and we're sharing an online notepad to write songs together, and it's pretty neat. I'm coming up with some off the wall ideas now, nothing sick or perverted, but kinda funny and making one think at the same time. I'm writing those lines that make people say "Oh Snap" when they hear it.
I'm also doing a few sketches, I might try my hand at some painting again soon. Fun fun fun.
