Re-arrange

Filed under: Beats, Masheek Hype 5 — Masheek Hype 5 @ 9:38 pm

So the last time I posted I mentioned that I would be releasing an EP; I’ve been basically working on the flow of my lyrics with the insane beats that Resin made for this EP. I had a plan when I was working on it that I would have just six tracks. I have totally changed my mind and decided that I’m going to have seven tracks on the EP instead. The plan was that I would use 5 of Resins instrumentals and one of mine, the Simplicity beat. But now I’ve decided that I’m going to scrap one of resins beats so that he has 4 instrumentals and I have 2. So I’m using the Simplicity beat for one of my tracks called “Random Shit” and I still have to write a track for my other beat called Haunted House. But enough about the EP, I have another beat that I would like to showcase as well that I will probably use for a solo album. I call it Serious Erie.

Also I made some revisions to the Simplicity beat but this will be for another track all together. This one is called: Simplicity: The Assassins Handbook.

Enjoy

Last.fm oddity

Filed under: Kawlinz, Miscellaneous — Kawlinz @ 10:39 pm

I wanted to write about an oddity concerning last.fm. Our group has a page on last.fm, and one of the features of a group page is something called Similar Artists. Here’s the thing, the artists listed on that page are not similar at all! It should really be called “People who have played your track play these songs”, except that, even as an acronym, that sucks.

Pretty much everything that was on the page was pretty cool though, so that’s a bonus. Hexes and Ohs are pretty awesome, they’ve got an electronic indie rock vibe to them. Bran Van 3000, which I’ve mixed up countless times in the past as Bram Vam or Bram Van. K-os and Mood Ruff are there too, I kinda figured K-os would be there. Obviously, the more times that the songs play, and the more people who listen, the more accurate the list will be.

I’m probably going to do a bit of integration on the next redesign of the website to include a playlist function on the side that will include a listening lounge of some sort, so it will be easier to hear our stuff as well as some fun stats from last.fm. It’ll be fun! In the meantime, a listening post with “Similar Artists” as us. Most of it’s pretty good. It’s kind of funny in the way, one of the reasons I make music is so that I can have something super-duper hot to listen to, but now all I have to do is listen to stuff like us instead.

Neck Calisthenics

Filed under: Beats, Resin Nate — Nate @ 11:30 pm

Thats right yall, warm it up. you’ve been warned (sinister laugh)

anyhow been trying my hand at something new these days, mixing. much as i love doing beats, the drive to hear some actual lyrics over them is growing (stare: Kawlinz, stare: Hype… :P).  either way until i get someone to spit over one of my joints, i figure id get my practice in with some acapellas of artists i like.

so here we go. bout to hit yall off with 2 mixes:

Masta Ace - Ya Hardcore Remix
imo the start is a bit shaky but after the first bar i think locks on beat.

Nas - Ghetto Prisoners Remix
i like the feel of this one better overall, even though i like the beat on hardcore more… maybe nas style fit this beat more.
the beat for this one can be found on my 61 page -=Here=- if anyone is interested.

Simplicity

Filed under: Beats, Masheek Hype 5, Music News, Sneak Peak — Masheek Hype 5 @ 7:01 pm

The last few weeks have been very productive for me as well. Vince and myself have decided on a estimated date and since then we’ve been working hard to make sure we get it out there when it’s supposed to be out there. In the meantime I’ve been working with reason as I watched my boy Bill N.Y. put together a beat using the program. Also I’ve been working on my rhymes putting together a little EP a small six track album. I’m going to call it awaken and the reason for that is because I feel like I have woken up from a bad dream that was so real. Basically I’ve been writing a lot and I feel that I have stepped up my game and I’m ready to show some of it off to the people. Trust me the EP is coming soon. But that is not the reason for the post, like 5 said before I have been using reason to make beats. I’ve made three so far but my third beat is by far the best one to date. I call this beat “Simplicity” and I call it that because when I was making this beat Saturday night everything that I did when making this beat seemed so right to me. So I’m not going to keep everyone in suspense. Here is my beat a work in progress right now called “Simplicity“, enjoy.

More Faith-free

Filed under: Artistic Process, Kawlinz, Sneak Peak, Writing, philosophy — Kawlinz @ 11:54 am

Quite a few months ago I posted about being faith-free, and I’d written the first verse, probably in a matter of 20 minutes. My second verse for the song, however, took a lot longer to write. I didn’t have a cohesive message to this verse, every once in a while I’d just pick away at the verse, writing the odd line or concept. A couple of weeks ago, I found a common theme in most of the pieces so I ran with it. The premise of the verse is mostly about the Euthyphro dilemma, which asks, in more modern English “Are ideas moral because they’re commanded by God, or are ideas moral because of God’s reasoning?”

… Laws we abide by, decided by chance
A guide for mankind, constructed by fiat
Or does he put thought behind each selection // a
Design of perfection, we’d be foolish to reject it

Both hype and I have decided that this track will be on The Demo Tape, it’s a very important track to both of us. We’re going to review the track listing once again and see if there are any changes to be made. For example, if you check out our track list, song 14 is listed as “Feet, Life, and Munchies”, but we’ve opted to take this song of, just because it’s no where near as good as most of the other stuff we have to offer. We’ll probably release it for free as a B-Side or something in the future, after everything with the album is completed.

Another Chorus Needs Changing

Filed under: Artistic Process, Beats, Kawlinz, Our Music, Writing — Kawlinz @ 3:18 am

Nearing the completion of two beats right now, both being songs that we’ve done a long time ago, I’d just never got down to getting the beats past their skeletons. Since in both cases the chorus wasnt really fleshed out at all, the choruses that both Hype and I wrote no longer go with the songs we’d written them to. In retrospect, both choruses did need some upgrading anyways, so why not just make new ones?

Usually, when I’m writing, I don’t like to change things once they’ve been written. I’m not sure if it’s an unusual habit, but in general, I only rewrite something if I need to change the flow or the amount syllables, and the actual content rarely ever changes. These two songs are going to need a make over. Murderous Intent has a chorus which I wrote, and while I might salvage a part of it, but the music for this section is a lot “bouncier”. I’ll probably rewrite it as something sarcastic rather than morbid, but then again, it all depends on how the rest of the song turns out and how everything sounds in context.

Masheek, however, has the opposite task ahead of him. The chorus section of Dark Words, Dark Times now has way more punch and bang to it, so I’ve gotta get Hype to swing hard on this one. I’m quite proud of the changes I’ve made to both songs instrumentally, now we’ll see if we can work both of these songs and make some fire.

still grindin’

Filed under: Artistic Process, Our Music, Resin Nate, Sneak Peak — Nate @ 11:37 am

what up yall

had a productive month as far as these beats go. basically managed to get 10 joints done, had set a goal to try to get at least 15 done though but ran into a creativity block of sorts where it felt like nothing was working.. mad frustrating.

anyhow, bout to hit you off with one of my latest. this one is kinda special to me as it really got me thinking about composing joints without samples.

for this beat i used a simple piano sample. thats it. normally id pass on something like that as i prefer more ‘flavor’ in something im looking to sample. but all things considering i think i came out with something in the end, at least more than i had expected to with something as simple.

well here it is: -=Beat=-

and for anyone interested, the original sample: sample

i’m out.

Dark Words…

Filed under: Artistic Process, Kawlinz — Kawlinz @ 1:57 am

I’ve been working on too many new beats and not really getting anywhere with them, so I decided that I’d go back to an older song that hadn’t been finished. If you’ve heard the preliminary recording of the song Dark Words, Dark Times, which means four to five people who may be reading, I’ve changed a few things that . I’ve stepped up the drums a bit, I didn’t do anything too drastic for the verses, but the chorus is changed in a huge way. So much so, that I might have Hype rewrite the chorus. Sorry bro! I was supposed to go back and work on a song called Murderous Intent, but I just happened to open the wrong file. Oops.

Other than that, I’ve downloaded a web browser called Flock, and I’ve gotta say it’s decent so far. It uses the firefox rendering engine, and I’m using it’s blogging post feature right now, so lets hope this message makes it through the intarwebs properly.

What it is yall?!

Filed under: Artistic Process, Bio, Music News, Our Music, Resin Nate, Sneak Peak, Writing, weed — Nate @ 6:17 pm

what up peeps, first post on this joint- or any type of blog for that matter. watch me fuck it up >.>
lately I’ve been thinking about getting back into beat making again.. after my halfway attempt bout 8 years ago lmao. anyhow, things have been progressing nicely on that end, better than its ever been imo.
I’m little hyped about this right now as i feel like I’ve hit a ’sweet spot’ in terms of work flow, not necessarily sound but since I’ve made that little change to how i create i feel that improved as well.
enough talk though, I’m going to up load a joint i just did - let y’all see for yourselves.
btw i beez a sample heavy producer hehe.

whoever listens to this, speak on it. lemme know if its hot garbage or bumpin’ in your ipod worthy.

FEEL IT!!

in case your curious, here is the original clip that i sampled from. apparently its Swedish reggae.. go figure

Sample

back to the lab, Peace.
